After the genocide
How did people react?
After the Cambodian genocide about 1.7 million Cambodians were dead. Most of the survivors were found very hurt, sick. or with loved ones killed. All of them with memories they will never forget for the rest of their life. The entire world was shocked. Throughout the entire genocide the Americans kept saying they were going to intervene, but really, they gave more supplies to the Khmer Rouge instead of killing them. It took them 4 years to finally help out Vietnam, but after that, It was already the biggest genocide since the holocaust.
What happened to the khmer rouge?
After the war between the Vietnamese and the Khmer Rouge, the Khmer Rouge started to fall. They no longer controlled all of the territory they once had because that was now the Vietnamese territory. So therefore they could not kill any more Cambodians but 1 million were already dead. And to make things worse, after the fall of the Khmer Rouge very few Khmer Rouge were punished for their actions. For example, Pol Pot who was the leader of the Khmer Rouge went on to live a normal life and ended up dying on April 5 1998. Even though he should have been executed in the most painful way. This is just one example of a Khmer Rouge who avoided punishment. There were many more that should have been killed or at lest sent to prison for life.
