8 Stages of genocide During The Cambodian Genocide
SybolizationThe Khmer Rouge's reasoning for why certain people were targeted had a lot to do with what the categories they fit into symbolized. People who wore glasses were targeted because their glasses symbolized their ability to read. The Khmer Rouge also used blue scarves to identify people who resided in Eastern zones of Cambodia.

PolarizationEven after being forcing Cambodians into labor camps the Khmer Rouge went to even more extreme lengths at which to separate people. Including giving certain people more or less of their already dismal rations. This could be based on things as small as how long they had been at a certain labor camp.
|
PreperationLeading up to the mass extermination that took place during the genocide the Khmer Rouge took steps to maintain their already secretive agenda. As preparation the Khmer Rouge secretly killed off Cambodians who had been trained by North Vietnamese Communists. When it became time to kill their victims, the Khmer Rouge would be decisive and tricky.

DenialIt is near impossible to deny that the events that occurred in Cambodia were not a genocide. But the denial in a genocide can also be defined as the perpetrators trying to hide what they did. During the Cambodian genocide many of the killed were buried in mass graves. This could be seen as an attempt made by the Khmer Rouge to hide, and therefore deny, what they were doing.
